Faith Christian Church
Faith Christian Church was organized in 1841 as First Christian Church. The church from that time on has had varied experiences. Three buildings have housed the congregation over the years since its organization. Until 1880 it continued to hold services in the building which witnessed its organization.
In 1880 the brotherhood of First Christian Church joined with the First Baptist Church in the erection of a frame building. In 1896 the First Baptist congregation decided they wanted a building of their own so they sold their interest to the First Christian congregation Oct. 7, 1896.
The wood frame building burned in August, 1916. It was replaced by the two story brick building which was dedicated April 15, 1917 and is today the home of Faith Christian Church. The name was changed in 1980 after a visitation of the Holy Spirit as members began receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and the gifts of the Spirit began to operate.
This obviously split the church and about half of the congregation left the fellowship. It continues today as a non-denominational faith fellowship.
ABOUT THE PASTORS: The pastors of Faith Christian Church are J. Alan and Cari Conner. They began pastoring Dec. 1, 2005.
Pastor Alan has spent much of his life discovering who he is in Christ Jesus. He was saved and baptized as a child only to drop out of church as a teenager until at the age of 27 while searching for purpose in his life, he discovered it was there all along---all he had to do was repent and be reconciled to God and once again continue the journey he started as a child.
He spent many years as a professional musician in the secular world. But the last 35 years has been spent serving the Lord. He was the minister of music of Faith Christian Church for 26 years, he taught Sunday School for 12 years, and has also served as the church janitor and groundskeeper.
Brother Alan realized the pastor’s call on his life in July of 2005 and accepted the interim pastor position from the church board Dec. 1, 2005.
First Lady Cari Conner joins Pastor Alan in the ministry as a counselor, guest minister, and help mate. She is the drama team leader and an intercessor. She is a very talented lady, also. Her decorating and organization skills are without measure.
Alan and Cari, have five children, Shelby Conner-Hanger and Shane Conner of Piedmont; Tammy Pennington of Farmington and James Conner and Sheri Conner of Santa Cruse, Calif. They also have 13 grandchildren.
Pastor Alan also plays bass guitar and sings on the praise team. His is joined on the team by daughter Shelby, grandson, Christian; son-in-law, Travis Hanger; and Cari’s cousin, Debbie Mullins, making it a family ministry.
